Ruwanweli Maha Seya is a sacred Buddhist stupa in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka, revered for housing a significant collection of relics of the Buddha.

  • Massive Restoration Effort: The stupa was in ruins for over 800 years. A major restoration project, funded by donations, began in the 19th century.

Guidelines

Offerings & Conduct : Flowers, incense, and oil lamps may be offered respectfully. Do not touch sacred objects, and avoid smoking, eating, or drinking inside the premises. Dress Code : Wear white or light-colored modest clothing covering shoulders and knees. Avoid hats, short dresses, sleeveless tops, or tight clothes. Footwear : Remove shoes and slippers before entering the sacred area. Walking barefoot is required inside the temple premises.
