- Unique Triangular Shape: Lakegala is known for its distinctive triangular shape and bare rock outcrop. It is often called “The Rock of Lanka.”
- Extremely Challenging Climb: Lakegala is widely regarded as the most difficult and dangerous hike/climb in Sri Lanka. The final section requires technical rock climbing skills, ropes, harness, helmet, and full safety gear (often guided).
- Steeped in Legend: The mountain is a site of many legends. Some say King Ravana ruled from here. Others believe the Buddha left a footprint on the peak.
- Strategic Watchtower: According to legend, King Ravana used Lakegala as a watchtower. It was from here he first sighted Lord Rama’s army.
- Panoramic Views: From the summit, stunning panoramic views of the Knuckles Range, surrounding forests, valleys, and distant landscapes (clear days offer wide inland vistas).
