Pasikuda Beach: Enjoy beautiful shores and peaceful surroundings.

✈️ Why should you visit Sigiriya?

Pasikuda Beach is unique for having one of the longest shallow coastlines in the world, where the water remains only waist-deep for nearly 250 meters out into the ocean, essentially turning the bay into a giant, calm “saltwater swimming pool.”
  • Clear waters: The beach is known for its crystal-clear waters, which make it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and other water sports.
  • Shallow coastline: The coastline at Pasikuda Beach is shallow, with a gradual slope, making it safe for families with young children to enjoy the water.
  • Coral reefs: The nearby offshore coral reefs and patches provide good snorkeling opportunities, home to diverse marine life including colorful fish (and occasional sea turtles), though reefs are somewhat affected by past events—boat trips or guided snorkeling enhance the experience.
  • Local cuisine: The beach offers a variety of local restaurants and street food stalls, where you can try some of the delicious Sri Lankan cuisine, including fresh seafood.

Guidelines

No Entry Fee: There is no ticket required to access the public beach, but if you are not staying at one of the luxury resorts, look for the designated public access points to avoid accidentally trespassing on private hotel grounds. Time Your Season: Unlike the south coast, the best time to visit is from May to September. During the “off-season” (November to February), the sea can become rough and murky, making the signature shallow-water experience less enjoyable. Sun Protection is Mandatory: Because the water is so shallow and you can spend hours wading far from the shore, the reflection of the sun off the white sand is intense. Wear a rash guard and high-SPF sunscreen, as there is zero shade once you are out in the water.
