✈️ Why should you visit Sigiriya?

Bible Rock, also known as Bathalegala, is a distinctive mountain in Sri Lanka named for its resemblance to an open book.
  • Distinctive Shape: The mountain is known as “Bible Rock” because it looks like an open book from a distance. Its flat top also makes it look like Sigiriya. Thus, it is also known as “Little Sigiriya”.
  • Accessible Trek: The hike to the summit is relatively easy. The climb from the trailhead is about 300–500 meters elevation gain.
  • Panoramic Views: The summit is a large, flat plain. It offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. You can see places like Ambuluwawa and the Alagalla Range.
  • Historical and Cultural Significance: The summit has an abandoned temple with a small stupa and a shrine room. This adds a spiritual layer to the hiking experience.
  • Visible Landmark: The rock is a prominent landmark. It is clearly visible from the Colombo-Kandy road, especially at the Kadugannawa Pass. This makes it a well-known feature of the region.
