Guidelines

Swim Only in Designated Areas: Hikkaduwa has strong currents and rough waves in some zones. Always follow lifeguard instructions and swim only where it’s marked safe for swimming. Red flags mean dangerous waters—avoid swimming there. Protect Coral Reefs and Marine Life: Hikkaduwa is a protected marine sanctuary. Do not touch, step on, or collect corals, and avoid using harmful sunscreens. Never feed or disturb marine animals like turtles or reef fish. Say No to Illegal Turtle Handling: Locals might offer you a chance to hold or pose with turtles—this is harmful and illegal. Observing them from a distance keeps the animals stress-free and preserves nature responsibly.
