  • Historical Significance: The temple was built by King Devanampiya Tissa in the 3rd century BC. It was originally built to house 500 newly ordained high-caste monks.
  • Historical Name: The temple was renovated by King Kasyapa I and renamed “Boupulvan, Kasubgiri Radmaha Vehera,” a name derived from his daughters and his own name.
  • Proximity to other sites: The temple is situated near the ancient Tissa Wewa reservoir and the Ranmasu Uyana pleasure garden, adding to its historical context.
