Deepavali, or Diwali, in Sri Lanka is a joyous Hindu festival celebrated with lights, fireworks, and sweets. Families clean and decorate homes, light oil lamps, and exchange gifts. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and prosperity, fostering unity and spiritual renewal among communities.

Significance: A major Hindu festival symbolizing the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. Celebrates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. Also associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Key Activities: Lighting of oil lamps (diyas) and candles in homes. Wearing new clothes. Cleaning, renovating, and decorating homes. Exchanging sweets, gifts, and good wishes with family and friends. Family meals and feasts with traditional sweets. Prayers (puja) to Hindu deities like Lakshmi and Ganesha. Fireworks and firecrackers. Drawing of colorful folk art designs (Rangoli or Kolam). Visiting Hindu temples.
